- Starting salary of $29,492. Additional pay incentives to include:
- 5% increase over base pay for an associates degree
- 10% increase over base pay for a bachelors’ degree or higher
- 5% bi-lingual increase over base pay upon successful completion of language testing
- 5% for prior Class-1 certified police experience of 1-5 years
(Military Police experience 1-5 years 5% as well)
- 10% for prior Class-1 certified police experience of over 5 years
(Military Police experience over 5 years 10% as well)
(Any combination of the above benefits cannot be over 15%)
- Take home car program after one year of employment

- Tuition reimbursement for continued education
- Eleven (8-hr) holidays per year
- General leave time as follows:
- First year of employment: 13 days
- Second through 10th: 18 days
- Eleventh through 20th: 23 days
- Twenty-first and beyond: 28 days
- Longevity bonuses paid every 5th year
- 25-year state retirement
Once employed as a police officer, you will attend the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy in Columbia for 9-weeks. Certified Officers from other states and Military Police may qualify for a 3-week legal’s portion or a challenge test. The Field Training Program is 600-hours, (may be abbreviated for prior experience), and the probationary period is one year.

Hiring Requirements:
- Be at least 21 years of age.
- Be a United States citizen.
- Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Have or be able to obtain a valid S. C. drivers license.
- Have not had a driver's license suspension during the last five
years for D.U.I., leaving the scene of an accident, reckless homicide
or involuntary manslaughter.
- Have never been convicted of a felony or Criminal Domestic Violence.
- Have never been convicted of a crime of moral turpitude or a misdemeanor
carrying a possible sentence of more than one year.
- Have not defaulted on a student loan.
- Have a good credit history.

Field Training Program
The Field Training Program is used to train newly hired
Police Recruits.This program is supervised by Sgt. T. D. Pomeroy, the F.T.O.
Coordinator, in the Training Section. Cpl. C. Mills is the Department Training Officer responsible for assignment and direct supervision of recruits.
There are several phases to the F.T.O. Program, starting with a basic
orientation to the department.Recruits are assigned to various Field Training Officers
throughout this process. Each recruit is evaluated by their F.T.O. on
job performance skills, attitudes/relationships and appearance. After
the successful completion of the F.T.O. Program, the recruits will continue
to be evaluated by their
platoon supervisor until they complete a one-year
probationary period.
